what is textile upcycling?

What if we stopped producing new
to create something beautiful?

Every day, tons of clothes are produced. And almost as many end up forgotten, unsold, or thrown away without ever having been worn. Faced with this headlong rush, a simple idea emerged: what if we transformed what already exists? This is the principle of textile upcycling.

Upcycling, or the art of doing better with what already exists

Textile upcycling, also known as overcycling, involves transforming an existing textile product - unsold, used, stored - to give it a new life, in the form of a new garment, accessory or textile product.
Without destroying what already exists, we cut, rethink and reassemble. Every material becomes a precious resource. Each creation tells a new story, designed to last and reduce environmental impact.

Recycling vs. upcycling:
What are the differences?

The benefits of upcycling

The material is preserved, transformed
More direct process, less impact
Often creates high-value pieces

The limits of recycling

Matter is destroyed, then recreated
Energy-intensive process
Can impoverish quality

At Losanje, upcycling begins where product life ends. Thanks to our automated cutting technology, we transform existing textiles into yokes ready to be reassembled into a responsible new product. A process rooted in circular design - to produce differently, from what already exists.

FAQs

What is textile upcycling?

Textile upcycling, or overcycling, consists in transforming existing garments, textiles or materials into new, higher-value products, without destroying the material. It's an alternative to new production, reducing environmental impact while adding value to obsolete textile products (second-hand, unsold, defective, etc.).

What products can be created through textile upcycling?

Our textile upcycling solutions make it possible to create a wide variety of garments and accessories, using your own materials or materials sourced by our teams:

  • Clothing & capsules: upcycled pieces, collections, creative collaborations.
  • Accessories: bags, clutches, cases, responsible fashion accessories.
  • Decoration & furnishings: covers, cushions, curtains, textile signage elements.
  • Communication & events: eco-responsible goodies, event t-shirts, sustainable communication accessories.
  • Uniforms & workwear: upcycled work clothes, aprons, professional equipment

Each project is unique and developed according to your specific needs and brand universe. Please feel free to request our catalog via the contact form.

What materials do you use to create your upcycled products?

We work either from our customers' own materials, or from a bank of recyclable materials sourced by our teams from partner sorting centers.

All our textiles are carefully selected according to their composition, quality and condition.

The materials we use most often:
- Blue or black denim
- T-shirts (white, gray, black or colored)
- Sweatshirts (various weights and colors)
- PVC tarpaulins (black, white or colored)
- Your own material: textile stocks, uniforms, your company's own offcuts...

We choose each material according to the product to be created, to ensure a high-quality, long-lasting finish.

I don't have any material, can I still work with you?

Yes.

If you don't have the material, we can source recyclable textiles for you through our partners (denim, T-shirts, sweatshirts, tarpaulins...).

We then build up a deposit adapted to the product you want to develop.

What information do I need to start a project with Losanje?

To properly frame a textile upcycling project, we need a few essential elements:

  • Type of products required (clothing and/or accessories)
  • The quantity envisaged
  • Available budget

This information enables us to define together the feasibility of the project and to adapt the proposal to your needs.
